Burn the Church?
The 16th Century saw a major Reformation within the “Christian Church” and most are familiar with the term “Protestant Reformation” which was originally called the “Magisterial Reformation”. A rival movement called the “Radical Reformation” was earlier launched in competition with the “English Reformation”.
From the early 16th century to the mid 17th century (130 years?), these various “Reformations” actually brought about wars in Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland France, Austria, Bohemia, Germany, Scotland & England.
These various “Reformations” were simply the re-birth, successors or continuances of the “Western/Papal Schism” of late 14th & early 15th century; which mirrored and eventually succeeded the “East–West Schism” which realistically dates back through the 2nd & 3rd century’s.
While the causes, reasons, concerns & issues of these reformations, are multiple; and while historians will ever debate the number of casualties, scores of people were killed and many Churches were burned.
People were dissatisfied with the status quo of the “Church” and countless charges of false, dangerous & damnable doctrines were levied against it. Most believe these Reformations were entirely about people leaving the Catholic Church; but also included was the Church of England. Out of this 130 year period, numerous Christian denominations were birthed.
I see direct parallels in the “Christian Church” of the 21st century. With the advent of the Internet, various chat formats, and other Social Networks; there is a large movement afoot, and these people are feeling & expressing much of the same dissatisfaction, disappointment, dissolution & disenfranchisement, of their 16th & 17th century counter-parts.
Many people today are angry with organized, traditional or institutional Christianity. They’re angry because they have decided to pick up their bible’s and read them for themselves; and they’re not seeing the same messages they’re hearing taught from the various pulpits & churches of & in Christianity. They’re not seeing or agreeing with much of the 2,000 year history of Christianity.
Much the same as children who grow up and discover that Saint Nick (Santa Clause) was a man who lived a long time ago, or that the Easter Bunny & tooth fairy are fictitious characters as well; many of these “Christian” individuals have grown up to resent not only the system, belief or ideology; they harbor an equal resentment of those who came before them, that propagated such notions.
Have you ever witnessed someone who has quit smoking or drinking alcohol, turn and become a vigilante against the institutions associated with them, and all those involved, as well as others who continue to smoke or drink alcoholic beverages?
Mankind needs an enemy; we need a punching bag, a gremlin, a devil, bad luck or negative karma. Rather than accepting personal responsibility, accountability or respectability; it’s easier to pawn our faults off onto others, and refuse to see ourselves as we truly are.
Reformation is necessary & ever-present. There has never been, nor will there ever be; a time where Reformation was not in existence, or will not exist.
I was not raised in the Institutional Church, and while most of my family, and various friends & associates throughout my life, would have never guessed that I would be involved in such an endeavor; I feel duty bound to play a role in a current, and much needed “Reformation” I am calling this the “Gospel Reformation” because it is the very Gospel being preached from the various pulpits within institutional Christianity, that needs reforming.
I am not suggesting a new twist on an old thing; nor am I proclaiming to have received divine insight from God, on or for a new course of action never before known to mankind.
I personally witness countless individuals on a weekly basis, doing their level best to bring about the absolute destruction of organized/institutional Christianity. They attack the institution and its members with a viral hatred, while claiming to be pious in their efforts, intentions & actions.
Organized/Institutional Christianity will never die; what needs to change is the message coming from the speakers. Christianity has seen its share of reformations, we are in the birth pangs of another; but Christianity has survived for nearly 2,000 years, a couple generations of dissatisfied customers will not kill "The Beast" as many wish to label it.
There's nothing wrong with the buildings they're meeting in and don't forget; 99% of those people were mislead, just like you, even the leaders.
Rather than running away from the fire, Christians are and are supposed to be the 1st responders, to any and all schism's within the collective body.
I am currently working on a series of books, called the “Gospel Reformation” the first 2 are with the publisher and should be in print soon. 2 more are nearly finished and I’m sure there will be successive volumes as well.
Book #1 is called “The Gospel Reformation, Act I. An Indictment of the Christian Church” this book deals with what I believe to be the main reasons that necessitate this reformation.
Book #2 is called “The Gospel Reformation, Act II. An Eschatology 101 Challenge” where I present the arguments from a scriptural investigative approach.
Book # 3 is tentatively called “The Gospel Reformation, Act II.I the A.R.T.S. of Eschatology” where I discuss the Audience Relevance & Time Statements of scriptures.
Book #4 is tentatively called “The Gospel Reformation, Act IIII. The 1-Revelation” which speak of the 1 Revelation of Jesus the Christ; and how the acceptance of this 1 revelation, can and will change the world.
It’s time to wake up those that are still inside this organized system; it’s time to get the attention of those who are looking to this system, and those who have already left it. It’s time to take the truth of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ, minus the legalistic traditions & beliefs that have been developed over the last 2,000 years of Institutional Christianity; and present the love, truth, grace, peace & mercy that is the “Good News/Glad Tidings” that is the absolute “Gospel” that Christ brought, taught & represented.
